70th International Mt Everest Day Celebration

US Nepal Climbers Association Inc. in association with the New York City Council is organizing an event on the occasion of the 70th International Mount Everest Day on May 29th, 2023, in Queens, New York. This ceremony is set to mark a historic event by co-naming a street in Elmhurst, Queens New York between Broadway and Woodside Ave on 75th Street as 'Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Way' in honor of the first human ascent of the world’s highest mountain Mt. Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953.

We anticipate that co-naming the street after the proud legendary hero of Nepalese origin, Tenzin Norgay Sherpa will further elevate the pride of every Nepalese national worldwide. US Nepal Climbers Association greatly welcomes the New York City Council’s historic decision, and we are very grateful to the council and all the stakeholders involved in establishing this historic milestone.

We have obtained all required permits from the concerned authority (SAPO) and local NYPD for street closure to organize this event.

The program is scheduled to begin at 9:30 am and will run until 4 pm. The event will commence at 9:30 am with the lighting of lamp and worship ritual followed by the naming ceremony between 11 am and 12 pm led by the city council. US Nepal Climbers Association will organize varied cultural performances, documentary show, and remarks from designated guests from 12 pm until 4 pm. Furthermore, the stage will be decorated to resemble the Everest Base Camp for those aspiring to reach the base camp.

We will highly appreciate your valuable presence in celebrating this unprecedented historic event.
