Save The Himalayas
A Call to Action

The Heart of the Planet
The Himalayas span across five countries—Nepal, India, Bhutan, China, and Pakistan—and are home to:
• The highest peaks on Earth, including Mount Everest
• Over 15,000 glaciers, which feed major rivers like the Ganges, Indus, Brahmaputra, and Yangtze
• More than 50 million people living in or near the range
• Countless sacred sites, monasteries, and ancient cultures
This region is not only sacred but essential for global ecological balance.
The Crisis Unfolding
Climate Emergency
• Glaciers are shrinking 80% faster than in past decades.
• Ice loss threatens freshwater access for billions downstream.
• Increased risk of natural disasters: glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), avalanches, landslides
Pollution and Waste
• Tons of garbage—plastic, cans, oxygen cylinders—are left behind every climbing season.
• Water sources near base camps are being contaminated.
Biodiversity at Risk
• Home to rare species like the Snow Leopard, Red Panda, and Himalayan Monal, now endangered by habitat loss.
Cultural Displacement
• Indigenous mountain communities are losing their traditional way of life due to modernization and climate stress.
• Sacred mountains and spiritual traditions are under threat.
