International Mount Everest Day Musical Night 2025 Celebrated in Queens
Queens, NY – May 31, 2025 — The Nepalese community of Queens came together on Saturday evening for a spirited celebration of International Mount Everest Day Musical Night 2025. Organized by the US Nepal Climber Association (USNCA), the event aimed to raise funds for the ongoing “One Dollar a Day” scholarship program, which provides educational support to children in Nepal—particularly those who have lost parents in mountaineering or are living in extreme poverty.
The event began with the Nepali national anthem, followed by the American national anthem, symbolizing the unity and dual identity of the Nepalese diaspora. This was followed by a vibrant cultural dance performance by the Upstate Sherpa Community, setting a festive and heartfelt tone for the evening.
The first half of the program featured remarks from leaders of various community organizations and representatives of Nepalese institutions. Many expressed their deep appreciation for USNCA’s ongoing efforts to uplift mountain communities through education. USNCA General Secretary Ang Dawa Sherpa shared the inspiring journey of the scholarship program, which began with just three children and has now expanded to support ten students up to 12th grade. He and USNCA President Jangbu Sherpa expressed their sincere gratitude to everyone who has supported the initiative over the years.
During this portion of the evening, donors were also honored with tokens of appreciation in recognition of their continued generosity and support for the scholarship program.
The event was chaired by Founder President Serap J. Sherpa, a key figure in the establishment of USNCA and its mission to empower mountain communities through education. It was gracefully hosted by Jubilee Sherpa, former Miss Nepal North America and current USNCA spokesperson, who brought elegance and warmth to the stage.
A highlight of the evening was the special recognition of Purushottam Nepali, the first Nepali police officer to summit Mount Everest. He was honored for his remarkable contribution to Nepal’s mountaineering history and received enthusiastic applause from the audience. DJ Tenzing Sherpa—one of Nepal’s pioneering DJs who recently summited Sagarmatha on May 21 and attempted a Guinness World Record for the highest-altitude DJ concert at Camp II (6,400 meters)—was also honored during the event for his groundbreaking musical achievement and for proudly representing Nepal on the global stage.
In addition to donations, funds were also raised through the sale of commemorative T-shirts, enthusiastically purchased by attendees in support of the scholarship campaign.
The second half of the event transformed into a festive cultural celebration. Beloved Nepali singer Gambu Sherpa energized the audience with a lively performance that had everyone dancing. He was followed by a memorable set from popular Bhutanese duo Jangchuk Choden and Minzu, whose vibrant songs lit up the room. The night ended on a high note with a dance session led by DJ PK, sending guests home with full hearts and joyful memories.
The 2025 Mount Everest Day Musical Night stood as a testament to the unity, generosity, and cultural pride of the Nepalese diaspora. Through heartfelt giving, artistic celebration, and shared purpose, the community honored the spirit of Everest while investing in the future of Nepal’s children through education.
